Spoken Word by Oveous Maximus (via Current.tv)
Posted by Jen under Uncategorized , Spirituality , Social Change , Poetry , ArtEvery once in awhile I come across a piece of art, a song, a movie that resonates and I am reminded of what truly matters to me. I came across this spoken word artist Oveous Maximus and I was inspired by the kind of dialouge that is possible when we each speak our truths honestly. His piece called “The Millions” examines the authenticity of an artistic message and how it can be influenced by money.
I saw Oveous on Current TV, which showcases short documentary episodes of pop culture, music, art, activism and world affairs. It’s a mix between the substance of PBS and the pacing and style of MTV. Most of the content is created by viewers and it’s geared towards a younger audience. Check it out for a sense of what is possible when media is in the hands of the average person.

That was so inspiring. I’m so thrilled that you shared it. The money *will* come to what we love. I think we’re all trying to live and believe in that right now. And I really appreciate the perspective in this. As a huge fan of hip hop, I’m constantly forced to seek underground artists for important content because it’s no longer making its way into the mainstream. An important, vibrant, inspiring culture has been co-opted by bling, and this guy is so right on.

There’s that word again. Resonates. And once again I find myself commenting.
I’m doing with these videos that ressonate btw as I stumble on them is I’m adding them to “collections” or a curated gallery of videos.

It’s still in beta… has a few minor bugs… but it’s live… and works pretty damn well.
What we’re trying to do is make more space for collaboration in the vlogosphere… exploring some of the curutorial aspects of sharing.
I hope you approve.
I added one of your other videos here too.

The first group, “vloggersations”… is for videos about videoblogging… but loosely speaking… it’s for artists talking about their craft. This video roughly fits into that category… I think it illustrates what it means to talk about and be passionate and outspoken about your craft. You’re other video about “going home” is very much right on track getting at many of the core questions about videoblogging… why it resonates… what it is and is not.
I assume you have seen truffaut’s quote about the film of tomorrow… It’s been cited endlessly throughout the vlogosphere. In fact I just cited it again on my own blog in a post just yesterday. It seems to address those issues about the value of this new film, the audience… the value proposition… the personal nature. Many of the same things you talk about here.
Peace,
-Mike

I have seen Oveous Maximus perform a few times, and each time the passion and honesty comes through in his performance.
Its important for people like you and I to support artist like this and in all fields, to educate and inspire us all, so that we may find our own way to continue and spread inspiration.

I simply adore Ove. I love what he does, his work is inspiring. He is genuine and not bad to look at at all! I learned of him through a friend at my school. He came to perform at C.W. Post/Long Island University and captured the hearts of many. “Ove, I’m waiting for Feb. 2007!” We love you here at Post, ur welcome back anytime!

Ove’s light shines in fading memories of what lies under. I’m glad that he’s in town for my eyes to witness his soul expresses so well.
Keep on rollin’ Ove the world awaits.
Thanks for sharing you’re inner visions…
