It is makes me sad to see young women base their sense of self on oversexualized media images of the “wild girl” as a faux empowerment model for intimacy, confidence and self determination. I came across this interview with Ariel Levy on The Colbert Report. Mabye the tide is turning?

i like how she talks about women imitating imitations… you should read rick poynor’s book designing pornotopia. it’s about design and pornography and the sexualisation of design. interesting.

I have this on my holiday wish list! How ironic and wonderful.
I love that Colbert has done a number of feminist interviews. He’s our people.
Arguably, the men got a little left out of feminism, but I don’t think that has to be the crux of the problem. Clearly, we left out a lot of women too.
What I think is important right now is exactly what you’re saying, Jen: living w/ integrity, moving away from the polarizing sexual roles we have to adopt as “liberated” women. Fuck that. I just want to be me.
Right now, feminism is confusing, but I can see some shifts, even in the past few weeks. Hang on. I think something big is about to flip.
